This song is heavily, very heavily inspired by Little Bubble by Dirty Projectors. It got stuck in my head while I was working, and this track was conceived during that work shift. It is so uncomfortably close to that song that I feel not crediting it would be wrong.
Thank you to David Longstreth and Teresa Eggers for penning the lyrics, and presumably the melody, to Little Bubble. (And, to a lesser extent, Fiona Apple for the intro, and Rosehall for the outro.)
lyrics
Morning, but the sky's still dark
I am succumbing to the cold
I hear the sunlight pouring through my window
And it's a reminder I'm not alone
You say "sorry" so I laugh, feign anger
There's no room for another apologist
And you reveal that a letter's in the mail
And I tell you I cannot wait to receive it
(So come back to me!)
It's been a few days
Can't help but wonder
Whatever happened to
My little bear
On the train
Your head on my shoulder
And I'm so endlessly thankful you are tall enough for me
I'm still in disbelief that I've found you at all
You don't have to tell me
I already know
Some days are going to be harder than others
And you're going to break it
The process is slow, but
One day we'll finally have each other
Don't let me rely on former friends
Who hate so profusely because they can
The truth is I side with you, since I
I want to be a different man
Shye helped me out on Artificial Soul. I am forever grateful for her work. This particular album is actually one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. BEAUTIFUL experimental sound design! Lavair
